Why Biya

 

The past Alhoceima was called Biya .A small town in the Rif, bordering

Medittarean. surrounded by thousanda of mountains and blue sea behind

Thos mountains.(the hills,ravines,figtress and fields of red and yellow

Burned soil)are living people who are proud and bent to no one.

They know to enjoy the  subtleties and pleasures of life ,they love to sing

Dance and celebrate, this proud people have a very strong sense of honour

And are devoted to the land of their ancestors

 

But the regime has succeeded in appressing the ambivalent nature of these

People. It happened for instance after the bloodbath of the riffains

During 1958-59. The Rif was the object of  unjust and humiliating

Isolation that lasted for more then 40 years.

This isolation was archived by depleting  the natural resources. Starting with

The destruction of the forests,followed by the exhaustion of the fauna and the

Flora of the sea,which was  one the few ways for the Riffains of A lhoceima

To survive. The coral, a vital part of underwater life,was exploited to the

Point of complete exhaustion.

Next, they depleted in a brutal way the beatch of all the sand , like in Swani

Whre practically nothing .More than 60.000 ton of all kind off  rubbish has been

Thrown into thewe sea ,day bay day, for years and years,

An immense crime against human nature.

 

Even the few public parks, inherited off the Spanish colonialism, and the

Unique forest (Mirador), which were the only green areas in the city,id not

Escape the politicos of this massive destruction of nature.

The destroying of the city –theatre “Grand Theater”,a historical  monument,

Build in the tradition of barque, was maybe one of the worst dramas

Against this place.

 

Quemado ,the tourists complex (one of the few places that assured the revenues of many workers)was sold as immovable by Bassri,the ex Minister of interior to one of this friends,

Who never even dreamed of this jackpot. The sale of Quemado was planned together with the closre  of the airport and the transformation of the harbour of Alhocima into a military harbor

Fortunately this Bassri was fired, before the executed the rest of his fatal plans. In fact ,

If Bassre stayed in power,Biya would be a military town today. 

 

Enfin,this charming town with her twenty-two beaches, her breathtakingly sunset and fabulous

Landscape are of a nearly eternal beauty. Her fish,forests,tourists coming from far, nowadays finds a town who considerate itself since then as despairing

 

In the context of the bitter and unbearable situation of this small isolated corner of the world

Thidrin,first as musician, secondly as originals from this place. Decided to dedicate their second album to the city of Alhoceima, her citizens, and to all Riffains.

In this way they want to  denounce and toe break the silence, that rules this city .

With this music the want to export the wounds and the pain of the riffains  beyond  the mountains.

Because Biya wil rise up again ,because the sun of love and hope keep watching over her.

We will laugh ,and laugh again and again ,for Biya  and. Even as sometimes,she brings along

The smile of children.
